IRI Wins Excellence Award in Kazakhstan

7th September 2017

On 6th September 2017 the Islamic Reporting Initiative (IRI) received the Award for ‘Best Islamic Financial Reporting’ at the Global Islamic Finance Awards in Astana, Kazakhstan, ‘for its remarkable efforts to progress the effective implementation of Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility in OIC member states – including through Western organizations with operations in these countries.’

The event was attended by Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev and Kazakhstan Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev, the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, the President of the Republic of Djibouti, the Governor of the Central Bank of Russia, the Kazakhstan Minister of Finance, ten Ambassadors to Kazakhstan, and many more senior officials and executives from all around the world.

As the Foundation for the Islamic Reporting Initiative is based in the Netherlands, the Award was kindly received on its behalf by the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, His Excellency Dirk Jan Kop. The award was presented to him by the Governor of the Astana International Financial Centre, Mr Kairat Kelimbetov.

Drs Daan Elffers, Founder of the IRI, said: “We are extremely honored and humbled to have received the Global Islamic Finance Award for the Islamic Reporting Initiative. We are convinced that the Islamic Banking & Finance sector has enormous potential to lead the growing global movement for mainstreaming values-based business across all sectors worldwide, and receiving this high-level recognition for our work is a fantastic milestone. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our Patrons, Members, and Volunteers across more than 50 countries for their tireless support, which has led to this success.”

About the Global Islamic Finance Awards (GIFA):

The Global Islamic Finance Awards are one of the most prestigious awards in Islamic banking and finance. Recipients of the award since its inception in 2011 have included HE Tun Abdullah Badawi, Former Prime Minister of Malaysia, HRH Sultan Nazrin Shah of the Malaysian State of Perak, HE Shaukat Aziz, Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, HE Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, HRH Muhammadu Sanusi II, Emir of Kano, Nigeria, HE Joko Widodo, President of the Republic of Indonesia, and HE Ismail Omar Guilleh, President of the Republic of Djibouti.

The Global Islamic Finance Awards are hosted in a different country each year.
